coir geotextiles uses

Coir geotextiles uses – Geotextile is a natural material and permeable textile material used to improve soil characteristics. It has the ability to separate, filter, strengthen, protect and drain when used in conjunction with soil. Coir geotextile is an ideal material for many infrastructure works such as roads, ports, landfills, drainage structures and other civil projects.

Coir geotextile material is very useful for soil reinforcement at a relatively low cost compared to other soil reinforcement methods. In addition, in good strength shapes so that the ground does not sink easily. Coir geotextile is a natural solution to prevent erosion/degradation of soil quality on a large scale.

Geotextile coir is made from coir that is processed by pressing it with a coir pressing machine. The coir is cut into small pieces and then sieved using a coir sieving machine to produce separate fibres. This fiber is then wound through a spinning frame whose diameter can be adjusted as required.

The categories of coir geotextiles

Corner geotextiles are made from coir that has undergone various processes. As a natural product, coconut geotextile is a biodegradable and environmentally friendly product. They are divided into 2 categories based on the way they are prepared:

Coir woven geotextiles
Coir nonwoven geotextiles

1. Coir woven geotextiles

This form is the simplest. Traditionally coir geotextile is made by hand using the 2 shaft weaving technique. This shape is used primarily for corrosion control applications. The variations of these are made according to the intensity of the rain, the type of soil and the slope of the surface. Each variation can be identified by the weight per m2 and the type of yarn.

2. Non-woven fabric geotextiles

The type of coir geotextiles is often referred to as coir filter cloth. Made from the same materials as non-woven coir geotextiles in sheet form and not by weaving. Coconut fibers are pressed and heated with a special glue.

In general, both types of geotextile have the same function. It’s just that their use depends on the type of land and the purpose of the construction to be built.

The scope of application of coir geotextiles in the engineering field is very wide. The application of the geotextile coir is called the nature of the work.

  • Land stabilization strengthens and controls erosion
  • Ground wall reinforcement is for reinforcement and drainage
  • Road stabilization functions of filtration, drainage, separation, reinforcement and containment
  • Rail, channel stabilization function for filtration, separation, confinement strengthening
  • A soft soil embankment is used for filtration, separation, reinforcement and erosion control
  • Landfill functions of filtration, drainage, separation, protection and encapsulation
  • Slope erosion control is for erosion control and containment
  • The reclaimed soil is used for filtration, separation and reinforcement
  • Filtration, separation and erosion control can be enhanced by strengthening river banks

From the above uses and functions of coir geotextiles, it can be seen that there is a big difference between functions and applications. These various functions can be fulfilled mainly by coir geotextiles.
